>>> Details

Divvy is a modern web app and Progressive Web App (PWA) designed to simplify group expenses, shared trips and everyday accounts. Unlike traditional solutions, Divvy combines a clean interface with smart tools such as AI receipt reading, real-time notifications and a powerful debt-optimization algorithm that keeps accounts clear with minimal effort.

Purpose and Use Cases

The platform solves the headache of keeping group accounts, adapting to many everyday situations:

  • +Group trips: Centralized logging of meals, lodging and activities, split proportionally or equally.
  • +Shared flats: Monthly handling of recurring rent, electricity and internet bills and shared purchases.
  • +Events and dinners: Quick, instant splitting of one-off bills without complicated spreadsheets.

Main Features

1. Interactive Expense Simulator (Divvy Simulator)

The landing page includes an interactive simulator that shows the split algorithm working in real time. With smooth GSAP animations, users can add fictional members and watch debts simplify automatically through visual vectors.

2. AI-Assisted Expense Entry (NLP)

Divvy lets you add expenses by typing natural text (for example, "Pablo paid €25 for the pizza and Ana owes €10"). The parser analyzes the string using artificial intelligence and fills in the expense fields automatically, reducing friction when entering data.

3. Receipt Scanner with OCR

Receipt scanning through image processing. Users can upload a photo of their receipt and the app will detect items and amounts automatically for later per-item assignment.

4. Push Notifications and PWA

Being a PWA (Progressive Web App), the app can be installed on mobile and desktop devices. It uses the Web-Push protocol to instantly notify about new expenses, completed settlements and pending-debt reminders.

Technical Infrastructure

Divvy's tech stack was selected to deliver a fast, offline-first user experience:

  • +Frontend & Backend: Next.js 16 (App Router) and React 19, taking advantage of hybrid rendering (SSR/ISR) and Server Actions for ultra-efficient communication.
  • +Styles and UI: TailwindCSS v4 for a modern design system with excellent performance and native CSS variables.
  • +Database: MongoDB with Mongoose as ODM, structuring the relationships between users, groups, expenses and notifications.
  • +Animations: GSAP (GreenSock) and ScrollTrigger to create micro-interactions, FAQ transitions and premium-looking debt-flow animations.
  • +Notifications: Native encrypted push protocol with VAPID keys using the web-push library.

Premium Design and UX

Divvy's visual design follows modern guidelines with a minimalist "Glassmorphic" aesthetic. The background features ambient gradient blobs that float softly in terracotta and sage-green colors, adding depth without overloading the device's processor. Every touch interaction and screen transition has been optimized to emulate the fluidity of a native mobile app.
