>>> Details

VeredillasFM 3D Printing is an extension of the IES Las Veredillas technology ecosystem, designed to centralize and automate the workflow of a digital fabrication center. The technical challenge was to build an interface that lets non-technical users upload complex models, while the backend manages persistent, secure state logic.

Architecture and Tech Stack

The platform is built on a solid base of modern technologies focused on scalability and integration:

  • +Frontend and API (Next.js - Pages Router): The Pages Router was chosen for granular control over the API Routes, which handle authentication logic and the orchestration of external services.
  • +Persistence (MongoDB): The application shares Veredillas FM's data infrastructure, allowing unified user management and full traceability from a single source of truth.
  • +Deployment (Vercel): Taking advantage of the serverless environment to guarantee minimal response times and high availability with no server management.

File Engineering and Automation

One of the critical points of the project is handling the 3D models (.stl, .obj):

1. Storage Pipeline with the Google Drive API

Instead of saturating the local server or relying on costly S3 buckets, a "Gateway" system was implemented. When the user uploads a file, the API Route processes it and transfers it directly to a specific folder structure in Google Drive through its official API. This gives printer operators immediate, organized access to the files without leaving their usual working ecosystem.

2. Transactional Notifications with Mailjet

To keep constant feedback with the user, the Mailjet API was integrated. A trigger system was designed based on state changes in MongoDB:

  • +Quote generated: Automatic email with the cost breakdown.
  • +Printing: Notification that the process has started.
  • +Ready for pickup: Final confirmation with instructions.

Security and Scalability

Being integrated with the Veredillas FM core, the system inherits the security and data-validation policies already established. Communication between Next.js and MongoDB uses secured connections and strict typing with TypeScript, minimizing errors in the business logic and ensuring each order is correctly linked to the requesting student's profile.

Technical Impact

This project shows how integrating third-party APIs (Google, Mailjet) can turn a simple contact page into a working ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system for an educational setting, professionalizing the service and optimizing managers' time.
